The Man Bun Hairstyle!
Let’s start by saying that usually, every long hair out there has a final destination that is of course ”The Bun”.
Ok, my friend, this is not a new app for finding girls, but you know it can definitely score you some extra attention: chicks love that artistic poetic guy, that badass dude with a cool man-bun and that bohemian attitude that sometimes comes with it…
So my friend, let’s see what ‘s all this fuss about.
The man bun is a hairstyle that features a ponytail or bunch of hair, bundled together somewhere on the crown area (aka the “vertex”). When the bun is placed high on the head, it’s usually referred to as a topknot. Other names for the man bun includes “bro bun”, “hipster bun”, “mun” or “dude bun”.
Man buns also sometimes appear with an undercut, where hair is left long on top and shaved tight on the back and sides. Sometimes the contrast between top and bottom is pretty extreme, similar to a disconnected undercut.
If you think the man bun was invented by a hipster dude somewhere in a coffee shop in London in 2007, think again. It’s not a recent trend. They’ve been around for years – 2,000 years at least. If you want proof, every member of the Terracotta Army sports their own, many with elaborate topknots.
An essential thing that you need to keep in mind is hair length. Without it folks perhaps we can talk about pretty much everything else. Depending on whether you want a full bun or a semi bun ( a top knot hairstyle), you will need a minimum hair length of 7 inches or more.
So, if you want to tie your hair on the top ( a man bun undercut, semi bun ), you will need, at least 7 inches of hair length (on the top of your head), although, I strongly recommend you to have more than 8 inches for the true samurai look. These minimum lengths will only allow you to tie a very small bun, which is also called a top knot. For a more precise bun as the half bun,( undercut look with a ponytail) you will need more than 12 inches on the top.
This is a cool, day by day practical hairstyle – you can combine it with a classy suit for a day at the office but also with a cool jacket and jeans look for a day out and about with your chums.
Man Bun – The Semi Bun Undercut
Deep undercut, the first stage of a bun. You will need at least 7 inches to pull of this look. This is also called the Viking look.
Men Bun – The Half Bun Ponytail.
This is my favorite one ” The Messy Bun”- the rugged gypsy look. Leather and jeans and this is how a rock star is born. Ok, this is also perfect if you are more of a bohemian kinda dude.
The Full Bun
So, this is the classy one, the go-to bun, the final step and the real deal. All you need here is hair, lot’s of it. As a little advice; grow a beard, it will help you get that rugged cool look that girls dig.
The Low Bun
More casual and less affected than overly manicured topknots, the low bun is an effortless style that brings a bit of beach-bum nonchalance to the city. Loosely pull the hair back, tie it with a band and forget about it.
The man-bun is the perfect hairstyle for all you dudes out there. A good idea if you have medium, long hair and you just wanna be practical and hip at the same time.
